Zybnek of Hasenburk (Hasenburg)

Archbishop of Prague

Zbynek was a friend then enemy of Jan Hus. He wanted Jan Hus to speak to the Bohemian clergy at the Prague Synod (1403).

Zbynek strongly disapproved of King Vaclav IV's tolerance of the Hussites (1408). He supported the Pope (1409) to appoint a Commission to investigate the teachings of Wycliffe, and presented a document to the Papal Curia outlying the accusations against Hus (1410). Zbynek then arranged for a book-burning in Prague (16/7/1414) of Wycliffe's books, and he publicly excommunicated Wycliffe.

Zbynek supported Ruprecht of the Palatinate in his quest for the Imperial throne and Pope Gregory XII in his quest for the Papal throne.
