Prince of Sicily & Prince of Bari
Second son of King Roger II of Sicily and Elviara of Aragon.
Brother of Roger, Duke of Apulia (d.1148), Alfonso, Prince of Capua & Duke of Naples (d.1144), Henry (died young), and William I, King of Sicily (d.1166).

He and his older brother Roger accompanied their father to Melfi (c.1129) - he was aged 9yo. Six years later he was invested as Prince of Bari (c1135) - Grimmoald, Prince of Bari had been dispossessed of his lands for rebellion against King Roger. This young man, still in his early teens, was given positions of high responsibility by his father.

However, before his full potential could be realised, Tancred died (c.1138). He was buried in the Chapel of St.Mary Magdalen, next to the old cathedral of Palermo.

"For my part, I adhere to the maxim of antiquity: The throne is a glorious sepulchre."
