Crusader CastlesLa Feve (al-Fula):
Templar castle, probably built by the Order as a supply depot. Situated at the crossroads of routes north and south of Tiberias and Jerusalem, and northwest to southeast from Acre to Baisan. Built on Bronze Age artificial mound, with nearby water source; rectangular enclosure (1170s), with considerable garrison of between 50-60 knights.
Twice used as an assembly point by army of Franks (1183), and from here Gerard de Ridefort, Grand Master of the Temple led military Orders to defeat at Springs of Cresson (1/5/1187). Fell shortly before Battle of Horns of Hattin (July 1187) - supplies seized by Saladin.
"For my part, I adhere to the maxim of antiquity: The throne is a glorious sepulchre."
