Donald III Bane - King of Scotland
(c.1031 - 1100)

Son of Duncan I (d.1040) and brother of Malcolm III Canmore (d.1093).

Donald Bane seized throne on death of his elder brother Malcolm (1093). However, he was deposed six months later by Malcolm's son Duncan II. Donald Bane became King of Scotland again six months later after murder of Duncan II (1094). His reign was again brief, and he was deposed by Malcolm's son Edgar (1097). Donald Bane aided Edgar's English uncle, Edgar the Aethling.

Donald Bane's fate - he was blinded and died in prison. He was the last Scottish King to be buried on Iona.
