Crusader Cities


Jerusalem:

Old City:
Walls built between 1537 - 1542 by Suleyman the Magnificent; Jaffa gate dominated by Citadel (Tower of David); New Gate dates 1887; Damascus Gate; Herods Gate breached by Crusaders 1099; St Stephens Gate; Dung Gate or Gate of the Moors; Zion Gate - Gate of the Jewish Quarter.


Muslim Quarter:
St Anne’s Church near St Stephen’s Gate was a crusader church.


Christian Quarter:
Church of the Holy Sepulchre - extensively rebuilt by Crusaders.


Temple Mount:
Dome of the Rock - Al-Asqa Mosque
